Atlanta appliance repair with a real diagnosis first
Atlanta Refrigerator Repair: Fix It, Replace It or Stop Guessing
In Atlanta kitchens, a refrigerator rarely fails all at once. It warms up by a few degrees, the milk turns early, frost creeps across the back panel, or a puddle shows up under the crisper drawers. By the time most people pick up the phone, the fridge has been struggling for days.
Alex Appliances Repair sends a technician to your Atlanta-area home to find the actual cause before anything gets replaced. You hear what failed, what the repair involves, and whether the refrigerator is worth fixing. Then you decide.
Call (470) 943-1696 or fill in the form on this page with the brand, the symptom and your ZIP code. We will look for the earliest open time, and same- or next-day visits are often possible.

Know What Is Wrong Before Anything Gets Replaced
Guessing is expensive. A warm fridge can be a quick fix like a blocked vent or a much bigger job like a failed compressor, and the symptoms look almost the same from the outside. That is why every Alex visit starts with testing, not with a part in hand.
Here is what our technicians check on a typical refrigerator call:
- Temperatures in both compartments, measured with a thermometer, not read off the display.
- The condenser coil and condenser fan, which carry heat out of the cabinet. Dust and pet hair on the coil force the compressor to run far longer than it should.
- The evaporator fan and the airflow path between the freezer and the fresh-food side.
- The defrost system: heater, defrost thermostat or sensor, and the board or timer that starts the cycle.
- The compressor and its start components, checked electrically before anyone calls the compressor dead.
- Door gaskets, hinges and leveling, since a door that does not close tight lets in warm, damp air all day.
- The water system on models with an ice maker or dispenser: inlet valve, lines, filter housing.
Once we know which part failed, we explain it in plain language. No repair begins until you say yes.
Refrigerator Problems Atlanta Homeowners Call About
Fresh-food side warm, freezer still cold. The freezer makes the cold air and a fan pushes it into the fridge through a small duct. When that duct ices over or the fan quits, the freezer stays fine and the fridge slowly climbs into the 50s.
Everything is warm. Look at the compressor side of things: a dirty condenser, a stopped condenser fan, a failed start relay or a control board that has stopped calling for cooling.
Puddle on the floor or water under the drawers. A frozen or clogged defrost drain is the usual suspect. Cracked supply lines and loose valve fittings are next.
Thick frost on the freezer's back panel. This is almost always a defrost failure. The coil behind that panel is supposed to be cleared several times a day.
Clicks every few minutes, no hum. The compressor is trying to start and the start device is giving up. Often the relay, sometimes the compressor itself.
New noises. Squealing from a fan motor bearing, ticking from a blade hitting ice, buzzing from a water valve. We sort the normal sounds from the ones that mean a part is wearing out.
No ice, or ice that tastes stale. Frozen fill tube, weak water pressure, worn valve, failed ice maker module, or a filter that is long overdue.
The display shows an error code. Note it, or take a photo. It helps us bring the right parts on the first trip.

How an Alex Refrigerator Visit Works
Step 1 — You send the details. Call or use the form. Tell us the brand, the model if you have it, and what the refrigerator is doing. Our phones are answered 24/7.
Step 2 — We match you to a time. We check your ZIP code against the route and offer the earliest available window. Many Atlanta calls get a same- or next-day appointment.
Step 3 — The technician diagnoses the refrigerator. Temperatures, airflow, defrost, electrical tests on the compressor circuit, and a look at the water system if there is one.
Step 4 — You get the facts and decide. We tell you what failed, what the repair involves, and whether we think the refrigerator is worth the repair. You choose to go ahead or not.
Step 5 — We repair and test. We install genuine or OEM-approved parts, run the refrigerator, and confirm both sections are cooling before we leave. Parts and labor are covered by a warranty of up to 6 months, and up to 12 months on Sub-Zero repairs.
Repair or Replace? A Straight Answer
Most refrigerator failures are single parts: a fan motor, a defrost heater, a start relay, a sensor, a water valve, a gasket. Replacing one of those is usually a small fraction of what a new refrigerator, delivery and haul-away would add up to.
Replacement starts to make more sense when:
- the sealed system has a refrigerant leak inside the cabinet walls;
- the compressor has failed on an older, basic model;
- the refrigerator has needed several unrelated repairs in a short time;
- replacement parts for that model are no longer made.
When we find one of these, we say so plainly. You get our honest read, and the decision stays with you. High-end built-in refrigerators are a different case: they are designed for long service, and repairing them almost always beats replacing them.
Before the Technician Gets There
- Keep both doors shut as much as you can. A closed refrigerator holds food safely for about 4 hours without power or cooling; a full freezer holds for about 48 hours (USDA).
- Move medicine and baby formula into a cooler with ice first.
- Check the breaker and the outlet, and make sure the temperature dial was not turned down by accident.
- Pull the kick plate at the bottom if you can do it easily — sometimes the coil behind it is packed with lint.
- Clear space in front of the refrigerator so it can be rolled out.
- Throw away perishable food that has sat above 40°F for more than 2 hours.
Small Habits That Keep a Refrigerator Out of Trouble
- Vacuum the condenser coil once or twice a year, more often with pets.
- Keep the vents inside the fresh-food section clear of containers.
- Replace the water filter on the schedule in your owner's manual.
- Wipe door gaskets with warm, soapy water so they stay soft and seal well.
- Leave the clearance around the cabinet that the installation guide asks for.
- Do not set the thermostat colder to "fix" a warm fridge — it hides the problem and makes a frozen duct worse.

Refrigerator Repair FAQ
01Can you come today?
Same- or next-day visits are often available, depending on your area, the technician schedule and the time you call. Call (470) 943-1696 early in the day for the soonest opening.
02Why is my fridge warm when the freezer is cold?
Most of the time cold air is not getting from the freezer into the fresh-food side. A frosted-over evaporator coil, a stopped evaporator fan or a failed defrost part is the usual cause, not the compressor.
03What temperatures should I set?
40°F or below for the refrigerator and 0°F for the freezer. Those are the USDA and FDA food-safety guidelines.
04Do you fix built-in refrigerators like Sub-Zero, Viking and Thermador?
Yes. Our technicians work on built-in and column refrigerators as well as everyday freestanding models.
05Do you handle refrigerant leaks?
Yes. Our EPA 608 certified technicians handle sealed-system repairs. We will tell you honestly whether a sealed-system repair makes sense for your refrigerator's age and model.
06Do I need the model number?
It helps but is not required. The model tag is usually inside the fresh-food section on a side wall or under the crisper drawers; the technician can find it on the visit.
07What warranty comes with a refrigerator repair?
Our refrigerator repairs carry a warranty of up to 6 months on parts and labor, and up to 12 months on Sub-Zero repairs.
08Do you repair refrigerators for landlords and offices?
Yes. We work with homeowners, rental properties, property managers and office break rooms across the Atlanta area.
