Oven Not Heating? The Usual Suspects
Electric oven, no heat at all. A burned-out bake element is the most common cause, especially if you saw a bright flash or a blister on the element. A failed relay on the control board or a tripped thermal fuse can produce the same symptom.
Gas oven, no flame. Most gas ovens use a hot-surface igniter that must draw enough current to open the gas valve. Igniters weaken with age; they still glow, but not strongly enough to open the valve, so the oven never lights.
Broiler works, bake does not — or the other way around. The two use separate elements or burners. One working tells us power and gas supply are fine and the problem is on the other side.
The oven runs hot or cold. A temperature sensor that drifts or a control that reads it wrong. Recipes start failing before the display ever shows an error.
Uneven baking. A convection fan that stopped, a weak element, or a sensor touching the oven wall.
Error code on the display. Codes often point to a sensor, a door lock or a control fault. Take a photo before you call.
Door will not unlock after self-clean. The lock motor or switch has failed, or the control has not finished its cool-down. We can release it safely.
Oven shuts off during cooking. An overheating control, a failed cooling fan or a thermal fuse that trips under load.

What the Technician Checks
A guess can leave you paying for a part you did not need. Our technicians test before they replace anything:
- Elements and burners — resistance tests on electric elements; flame and igniter checks on gas burners.
- Igniter current on gas ovens, since a glowing igniter is not always a strong enough one.
- Gas valve and safety valve operation, plus a check for gas odor at fittings.
- Temperature sensor readings against the oven's actual temperature, measured with our own thermometer.
- Control board and relays, including the touchpad or knobs that send commands.
- Thermal fuse and high-limit safety switches.
- Convection and cooling fans.
- Door lock, hinges and gasket — a gasket that leaks heat makes the oven work harder and bake unevenly.
When the diagnosis is done, you get a plain explanation of what failed and what the repair takes. The work starts only after you approve it.

Convection, Steam and Self-Clean: Features With Their Own Failures
Modern ovens do more than bake, and every extra feature brings its own parts.
Convection. A fan at the back wall circulates hot air, and on true convection models a third element sits behind it. A fan motor that hums but does not spin, or a convection element that has burned out, leaves the oven heating but cooking slowly and unevenly.
Steam and steam-assist. These ovens pull water from a tank or a direct line and turn it into steam. Mineral scale from tap water, a failed pump or a clogged line can stop the steam function while the oven still bakes normally.
Self-clean. The cycle heats the cavity far beyond normal cooking temperatures and locks the door. That heat stresses the thermal fuse, the lock assembly and the control board, which is why many oven calls start the day after a self-clean.
Touch controls and Wi-Fi. Glass touch panels and connected controls add a ribbon cable, a touch board and a communication module. A dead touchpad does not always mean a dead control board, and we test which part has failed.
Gas Safety Comes First
If you smell gas in the kitchen, do not light the oven, do not flip light switches and do not unplug anything. Leave the house and call your gas company or 911 from outside. Once the gas company has made the house safe, we can diagnose and repair the oven.
A faint smell for a few seconds when a gas oven lights can be normal. A smell that lingers is not.
Is It Worth Repairing Your Oven?
Usually, yes. Elements, igniters, sensors, fuses, fans, door locks and gaskets are all replaceable parts, and they account for most oven failures. Wall ovens in particular are worth repairing: a replacement has to match the cabinet cutout, which can turn into a cabinetry project.
Repair is a harder sell when a control board for an older model is no longer made, when the oven cavity has rusted through, or when the oven has needed several major repairs in a row. In those cases we tell you what we see and leave the decision to you.
Before the Technician Arrives
- Check the breaker for electric ovens. The oven heats on both sides of a 240-volt circuit, while the clock needs only one, so a lit display does not prove the oven has full power.
- Make sure the gas valve behind a gas range is open.
- Write down any error code and when it appears.
- Note what still works — broil, bake, convection, cooktop. It speeds up the diagnosis.
- Let a self-cleaning oven cool completely before trying the door.
- Clear the counter next to a wall oven so the technician has room to work.
Oven Care That Prevents Calls
- Use self-clean sparingly. The very high heat is hard on fuses, locks and control boards; wiping spills soon after cooking keeps the need low.
- Keep foil off the oven floor; it can trap heat and damage the finish or block airflow.
- Do not lean on an open oven door; bent hinges lead to heat leaks.
- Check the gasket now and then for tears or flattened spots.
- Preheat fully before baking so the sensor and control can settle.

Oven Repair FAQ
01Why does my gas oven igniter glow but the oven never lights?
The igniter has probably weakened. It still glows, but it no longer draws enough current to open the gas valve. Replacing the igniter usually fixes it.
02My electric oven broils but will not bake. What failed?
Most often the bake element. A control relay or a wiring problem at the element can cause the same thing, so we test before replacing.
03My oven bakes too hot or too cool. Can that be corrected?
Yes. We check the actual temperature against the setting, test the sensor and adjust or replace parts as needed. Many ovens also allow an offset adjustment from the control panel.
04The door is locked after self-clean. What do I do?
Wait until the oven has cooled completely. If the door still will not open, the lock motor or switch may have failed. Do not force it — call us and we will release it safely.
05Do you repair wall ovens from Wolf, Thermador and Viking?
Yes. We repair built-in wall ovens and professional-style ovens as well as everyday ranges.
06Do you work on gas and electric ovens?
Yes, including dual-fuel models with a gas cooktop and an electric oven.
07What warranty comes with the repair?
Up to 6 months on parts and labor for every oven repair.
